Since I was going to be leaving on a trip to DC for five days, Oscar and I went out on a date to a new restaurant/gastropub in the downtown Clematis area called Hullabaloo.

Hullabaloo used to be called “The Lounge” which was a late night lounge/sushi joint that was closed a while ago but has now re-opened under new ownership and was re-designed into a cozy little spot that’s now open for lunch, dinner, drinks and late night dancing.

The inside was very long and narrow with brick walls, dim lighting and jazzy music. It also has an open kitchen with a wood burning-oven in the back which I thought gave it a very warm rustic Italian feel.

To my delight, we were seated outside on the patio which is shared with the restaurant next store called “Longboards.” Oscar and I thought it was pretty neat to see local businesses sharing their space with each other. It’s not something that we see very often here and is a probably a very beneficial thing for them to do.

We really enjoyed the outside dining area. It’s a little cozier and quieter back there and I loved the hanging decorative lights. They also had a carved out silver air stream trailer which for extra seating which is also different and kinda cool. And the cool breezy weather we are having made it a perfect night for dining al fresco.

For dinner, I ordered the Roasted Red and Golden Beet Salad that came with spinach, pine nuts and goat cheese. Oscar ordered the Fettucini Carbonara and we shared some  Tiramisu for dessert.

The food was excellent and the service was pretty good too. Although, it took them a while to bring out our dessert so we ended up getting it to-go. Our waiter was very nice and apologetic about it, however, and took it off of our check. To be fair, it was a very busy night and they were short handed so I’ll cut them some slack. All in all it was very enjoyable and we will definitely be coming back.

If you are looking for a place to go for lunch, dinner, adult beverages, or a just little late night snack with music and dancing – Hullabaloo is definitely the place to go!

I remember the Lounge! I love the transformation though. The sharing of the patio is sweet and looks adorable inside and out. Glad you guys had such a nice experience there. Next time I come down I will have to check it out.
