Surviving a Case of the Uglies

Have you ever had one of those days where you didn’t feel your best? You feel icky and your hair is looking either greasy or frizzy or both. You’re tired and you don’t like what you’re wearing but were in a rush and had nothing else to wear?? Or you feel blah. You’ve seen better heads on lettuce. Or as some people like to call it: Having A Case of the Uglies. Well friends, that’s what I had goin on today  😦

bad hair day

It’s not the end of the world and I don’t harbor these feelings often but when they do come up it’s no fun at all.

But you know what? I survived it. We all do.  And we all have our own ways of dealing and things we tell ourselves in order to get out the door and continue with our day whether it’s work, jury duty, an outing with friends or just going to the grocery store. We all have ugly days and we all survive them!

Here’s how I got through my ugly day:

1) Ate healthy meals – Cottage cheese with fruit for breakfast and a spinach salad for lunch. Eating fruits and veggies is good for your skin, hair and teeth and makes you glow 🙂

2) I also ate Dove dark chocolate – chocolate is the cure for almost everything!!

3) Stayed busy and productive – that way you don’t think about it.

4) Called my mama – talking to your girlfriends or loved ones is the best therapy.

5) Worked out – and went to my favorite sexy booty beat dance class afterwards.

6) Hug and kiss – Gave my fiance a big hug and kiss when he got home which I always do but it made me feel very sexy and happy 🙂

7) Gave myself a nice hot bath – with salts and oils 🙂

8) Drank a glass of wine – wine helps alot too.

9) Read a good book – currently reading the Game of Thrones Book 5: A Dance with Dragons  – it’s very enthralling!

10) Drank tea – green tea, mint and sleepy time tea are my favorites.

11) Embraced the ugly day – just accepted it.

This picture I came across on pinterest also helped me too. For some reason, I find alpacas silly and amusing….:D

How do you deal with bad hair/ugly/frumpy days?

Women for Women 5K

May has been such a beautiful month!! I always thought that April was the last month of the year before it gets really hot out but besides a little rain here and there, the weather this month has been breezy and glorious!

LW Beach 5K

I was especially grateful for these nice conditions on Saturday, May 18th, when my good friends: Jessi, Alicia and Heather and I participated in the Women for Women 5K on Lake Worth Beach.

Over a 1,000 runners showed up for the Women for Women 5K, to help support two local charities: Girls on the Run Palm Beach and the Palms West Chamber of Commerce. Girls on the Run Palm Beach is a non-profit organization with a mission that is very close to my heart which is “to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.”

LW Beach 5K start
We started at the beach, ran over the Lake Worth bridge, through downtown Lake Worth and back. It was a very enjoyable run with nice views,  a warm breeze and friendly runners. Even though my friends and I got split up, I knew I was in good company when I saw other runners encouraging some of the younger race participants and the cheers and motivation we got from our goofy water stop volunteers made it pretty interesting as well. water stop vols

I finished in 32 minutes which isn’t bad considering that I slowed down and walked a few times. Heather and Alicia weren’t too far behind me and Jessi finished 3rd in her age group in 28 minutes!! Yaayy Jessi!! 🙂 We were greeted by fire fighters at the finish line with medals which wasn’t a bad way to end the run either 🙂

Afterwards we celebrated and recooped over veggie omelettes, fresh fruit and lots of water at Mulligans on the beach while we discussed wedding plans and engagement parties (exciting!!)

All in all it was good run and I’m very glad my friends and I participated in it. Next one is the Run, Sweat, Beers 5K in Boca on July 18th. Can’t wait 🙂

We’re Engaged!!

Hi everyone!

I’ve got some exciting news…..Oscar and I are engaged!!! He proposed to me on my birthday and there are no words to describe how happy and excited I am to be marrying this guy 😉 Hopefully these pictures below will help 😛

enaged

This past month has been quite a whirlwind of activity with celebrations and breaking the news to our family and friends. engaged

The Proposal:
Oscar surprised me by proposing to me on the night of my birthday. We went out for a nice dinner at the Okeechobee Steak House, shared a bottle of wine and afterwards took a drive by the beach and then walked down to Worth Ave in Palm Beach.  He had also given me flowers and cute card beforehand which I thought was good enough but apparently my honey had other plans.

After our dinner and evening walk, we went home to settle in, relax and get ready for bed. And just before I started to take off my jewelry and change into my PJ’s, Oscar took me by the hand and told me he had a little something for me out in the living room. Soooo….we walked into the living room and to my surprise, there was a little box with a bow and another card waiting for me on the table.

He told me to open the card first so I did and there was a very sweet personal message written by Oscar inside. I won’t go into all of the details about what was written in the card but lets just say at the end he mentioned he would like to have a Mrs. Dominguez and that’s when I looked up and saw Oscar with the box opened and the ring in his hand and he proposed. It was the sweetest and most romantic moment ever. And of course, I kissed him a bunch of times and said “YES! YES! YES!”

The Ring:
bling

Tada!! Isn’t it gorgeous?? Oscar picked out the most beautiful ring I have ever seen! It’s a solitaire round-cut diamond with an antique-vintage style band. It reminds me of my grandmother’s wedding ring that I had always loved and is a family heirloom. It’s so unique and I love the way it looks on my hand. Although I had given Oscar hints as to what type of ring I would like, he picked this out all by himself and it’s waayyyy prettier than anything I would’ve selected. Although I think it’s sweet when couples pick out rings together, I wanted to be surprised and am so thrilled to be wearing a ring that he researched and picked out for me on his own. :))))))

Future Plans:
Since we are looking to purchase our first home in the fall, I am not sure when our wedding date will be yet. We would really like to get our living situation settled first before we make any concrete wedding plans. But of course, it’s never too early to start doing some research and looking to pinterest for inspiration in the meantime 🙂

super sweet

Oscar and I have been together for a little over 3.5 years and everyday he makes me feel like the luckiest woman in the world. He has taught me so much about love and relationships and has been there for me through some really tough times in my life. I cannot wait to marry him.  He is the most wonderful man I have ever met and I look forward to starting our lives together as husband and wife 🙂
