Teecino Vanilla Nut Herbal Coffee

I awoke this morning feeling refreshed and vibrant.  This has been an extremely hectic week for both my fiance and I, with juggling multiple work projects, training for a sprint triathlon and closing on our first home!!! Lots of fun and exciting things going on but also very stressful so it was nice to stay in on Friday night and get some rest.

Since I had the morning all to myself and didn’t have anywhere to be, I made myself a cup of Teecino Vanilla Nut Herbal Coffee with almond milk for the first time and it was phenomenal!!

I came across Teecino Vanilla Nut Herbal Coffee at Tunie’s market a couple of weeks ago and have wanted to try it out ever since.  I love coffee but I have stomach issues and am sensitive to caffeine so I thought I would try this out as a possible alternative. And what I came across is a delicious, super healthy and full bodied tasty morning drink that I will be treating myself to a lot more in the future.

Teecino herbal coffee is made with three organic ingredients: carob pods, barley and chicory root.  It also contains dates, figs, almonds, and ramon seeds that gives it a sweet, fruity and nutty like flavor.  Here is some other information I found online about Teecino herbal coffee:

Afterward this delicious Teecino revelation, I made myself some peanut butter toast and a strawberry and banana smoothie and went down to the gym for some cardio and strength training.

Fondue Engagement Dinner

On the eve of the 22nd of June, my good friends threw me an engagement party that made me swoon.

We ate and toasted and danced in their home, then Christina and Heather read me a very sweet poem.

I was also surprised by a very special guest; when Kristy showed up with her family which had us all feeling quite happy and blessed.

Then I opened up presents and sweet cards with love; from good friends and family whom I think the world of.

Lips and Donuts

Last Friday night, my girlfriends and I had a super-fun time at Lips Drag Show in Ft. Lauderdale!!

We had been planning  a Girls’ Night Out since we knew all of our guys were going to be out of town together for a bachelor party trip in Montreal.  So we got all dolled up and met up for a night of glitz n’ glamour 🙂 We also wanted to make it a Bachelorette party for our friend Melissa since her fiancé was the one who was having his bachelor party weekend in Montreal.

We met up at Melissa’s house for cocktails and to surprise her with some goodies. (I mean what’s a bachelorette party without the swag, right?? 😛 We didn’t go too crazy but we definitely dressed her up and presented her with her very own homemade bride-to-be margarita glass, a sash, a hottie whistle and some cute buttons to wear. Then we toasted to our weekend with a glass of vino and chatted a bit before heading out the door.

Now it’s on to the main attraction…Lips!  We surprised Melissa again by taking her to a dinner and drag show at Lips in Ft. Lauderdale. We had a fabulous time and couldn’t get over how pretty some of the “ladies” were – especially our hostess, Diva, who is considered to be the “Prettiest Queen in Florida.”

The dinner and show was amazing and the ladies of Lips were very pretty and talented.  Our waitress was cool too and dazzled everyone during the show with her awesome gymnastic skills. And of course, they had to do a special show and shout out for the bachelorettes so they got Melissa on the stage to do a shot with the divas.  Melissa was a good sport but we could tell she was embarrassed so she promised us that she would be getting us back for that even though we swore up and down that we had nothing to do with it 😉

The meals we ordered were really good too but I was so into the show and the entertainment that I didn’t get to eat much of it. The atmosphere was very glitzy with chandeliers and shiny glittery platform shoe decor. I also liked the fact that no matter how busy the staff was, they always made sure your drinks were full so we left feeling very happy.  (Lucky for us, our friend Annie decided to be our designated driver…Thank you Annie!).

Speaking of food……..on the way home we happened to drive by The Dandee Donut Factory on Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano and we were all in agreement that we HAD to stop in for a late night doughnut.

Come to find out, that was an excellent decision because their donuts are fresh and off the chain!! We each ordered a donut for ourselves and maybe a few more just to sample and share 😉 I had the chocolate coconut donut and my friends ordered the blueberry, sour cream glazed and strawberry donuts.  So we sat down, enjoyed our donuts and discussed our mutual affection for Channing Tatum. It was a lovely way to end our evening.

I am so glad that we had the opportunity to hang out together just us girls since we all met each other through our guys and mainly hang out together as couples.  And I am so happy for Melissa and her fiancé, Anthony and their upcoming nuptials. I remember when I first met them and thought that they were such a cute couple and that they are very good for each other.  I think Melissa is such a cool, sweet and positive person and I know that she is going to be a beautiful bride. I am also very happy for Aja and Annie and all of their wonderful upcoming plans as well 😉 So cheers to them! And cheers to Girls’s Night!!

Peanut Butter Protein Balls

Good morning and Happy 4th of July!!

This morning my friends and I got together for the second round of our triathlon training. I really enjoy our group tri-training sessions and don’t mind getting up early for a fun and challenging work-out with my friends.

I like to get prepared the night before so I can just get-up change, grab my bag and a quick bite and go.  Speaking of a quick bite, check out my recipe for homemade pre work-out peanut butter protein balls. In addition to the protein ball, I also ate a banana and drank a lot of water (the night before as well as the morning of) to properly fuel my body for the swim, bike and run.

Do-It-Yourself Protein Ball:

3/4  Cup of Peanut Butter (I use Smart Balance)
1 TBSP of honey or light Agave nectar  (optional)
1/2 Scoop of Designer Whey Chocolate Protein Powder
1/2 Cup of dried oatmeal or granola
Small handful of chocolate chips (optional)

In a microwave safe bowl combine peanut butter and honey for 30-45 seconds. Add protein powder, oatmeal and chocolate chips. Mix all of this (it will be thick). Scoop out a spoonful of the mixture and roll it into a ball with your hands.  Place the balls onto a 9X13 inch pan or some wax paper. Then put it in the refrigerator and let cool.

All in all the mock tri went very well. We started around 8am before it got too hot and the weather was nice and breezy. Unfortunately there were riptides and strong currents which made the ocean rough so we didn’t get to swim.  The wind seemed to be going in both directions during our 10 mile bike ride. It was very challenging but we powered through. Then we ran for a 1/2 mile. The run was good but I could have ran a longer distance so I am definitely going to step it up in the next training round.

Afterwards, I came home and made some coffee and a delicious smoothie with fresh fruit and Greek yogurt for me and my honey. Now for a little relaxation time before some burgers, beer and fireworks! Hope you all have a Happy and safe 4th!!!

Fabulous Fitness Survey

Hello everyone and Happy Tuesday 🙂

Below is a fun fitness survey that I found on a cool blog I came across recently called Lindsey’s List. I like taking surveys and I found this one to be very insightful towards my goal of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  

1. What did you eat for breakfast?

Scrambled egg whites made with egg beaters and one egg, goat cheese crumbles, and parsley with a side of avocado and cantaloupe.

2. How much water do you drink a day?

I’m not sure. I try to make a conscious effort to drink lots of water during the day and always take a water bottle with me wherever I go. I also keep a tervis tumbler at work that I try to remember to keep filling up on the hour.

3. What is your current favorite workout?

My favorite work-outs are the classes I take at Move Fitness Studio with Amy Walker. I especially enjoy her Fuse, Bo-Stride and Booty Beat class.  They are fun, fast, challenging and effective and the time seems to fly right by. I also enjoy boot camp, running, biking, and yoga.

4. How many calories do you eat a day?

I track my calories daily using Livestrong’s MyPlate app. I usually log around 1200-1500 calories a day. But on the weekends…I have no idea. (I don’t go crazy tracking my calories on weekends but I do try to be very mindful of what I eat).

5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?

As most of my friends know…I love my snacks! My go-to snacks are mostly:  almonds, sliced apples with peanut butter, baby carrots and mozzarella cheese sticks.  I also LOVE pretzels and popcorn but I try to stay away from them and not keep them around the house.

6. What do you usually eat for lunch?

I like to make my own lunches and I always try to incorporate veggies and protein in my meals and make them look fun and colorful like the photos below. I usually make salads with chicken or fish and lots of fresh crunchy veggies or a ham and turkey sandwich wrapped in lettuce with fruit. Then I take a photo of it and send it to my friends so we can compare, share ideas and motivate each other to eat healthy meals throughout the day.

7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?

Arms, shoulders and legs.

8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?

Chest – push ups

9. What are your “bad” food cravings?

Cookies and ice cream and salty crackers or chips.

10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?

I love my gummy vitamins!

11. How often do you eat out?

It varies.  Oscar and I like to get take out once during the week and usually go out to eat twice on the weekends or while we’re out with friends.

12. Do you eat fast food?

I do not like fast food and I try to completely avoid it. However, if I do get fast food, I go to either: Pollo Tropical, Wendy’s or Taco Bell since they have healthier selections on their menu.

13. Who is your biggest supporter?

My fiance – Oscar, my Mom and Dad and my friends.

14. Do you have a gym membership?

No. I use the gym in our building which is free and I buy packages to a fitness studio downtown where I live.

15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

I try to get eight hours of sleep, but most nights I get around six to seven.

16. Do you have a “cheat” day?

I don’t plan cheat days but it happens.  I always try to make conscious decisions about my food choices for the most part, but I indulge myself from time to time. I don’t think it’s good to restrict yourself too much.

17. Do you drink alcohol?

Yep!!

I enjoy drinking socially with friends or on special occasions. I also enjoy having a glass of wine or two with Oscar and partying it up from time to time with my flygirls 🙂

18. Do you have a workout buddy?

Yup – Heather, Alicia, Jessi, Melanie, Christina, Grace, Brianne, Ange and Oscar. They are also my triathlon, mud run, boot camp and 5K running buddies!! 🙂

19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?

I became excited about exercising and fitness.  And not just to look better but for the way it makes me feel.

20. What was the last healthy thing you did?

I exercised 3 days in a row!! I went to Amy’s Saturday Rise 90 class or as we like to call it….”Insanity Saturdays class”  Then I did a mock tri with my girlfriends on Sunday and another work-out class on Monday. It was awesome!! 😉
