The Secret Garden Cafe

Good Morning Peeps!!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is enjoying their holiday. I can’t believe this is the last weekend of 2013! I don’t know about you all but I thought  2013 was a pretty awesome year and I am ready for 2014. Bring it on!!

On Saturday morning my honey and I met for  brunch at The Secret Garden Cafe in Boynton Beach. I’ve driven by there many times and have always been curious about going inside and trying it out. There are so many cool things about this place that I don’t even know where to begin.

The Secret Garden Cafe is a restaurant that uses organic produce. They are a part of a complex that includes an organic green market, bakery, specialty food store and they also offer cooking classes!  Their motto is “Farm to Table Freshness by using the freshest ingredients provided by Urban Farming and local Boynton Farmers”.

When we walked in I was very pleased with the cozy atmosphere and the home-y feel it had to it. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who sat us in a cozy table next to their Christmas tree. She brought us out some waters with lemon and some coffee and tea while we looked at their menu. They also had a live singer and guitarist who played soft tunes while we waited for our breakfast.

I ordered a veggie and goat cheese omelet and Oscar ordered the 2 egg breakfast which was superb. Both of our orders came with fresh fruit and toast and a homemade jam and fruit spread which was mouthwatering.

Oscar and I both had a great time. The service was very friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was lovely and the food was simply healthy and delicious. Unfortunately, I don’t come across many restaurants in Palm Beach County that use cage-free eggs, organic meat and produce and wild seafood. I was very impressed and look forward to going back. I feel so lucky to have a dining spot close by that is healthy, local and environmentally conscientious!!

Tasty Tasting at Benvenuto’s

On Friday, November 16th, Oscar and I along with my Mom and Stepdad went to Benvenuto’s for our wedding food tasting and it was a HUGE SUCCESS!! Not only was the food excellent (and very filling) but we were all blown away by the ambiance and the first class service we were treated to.

Benvenuto’s is a beautiful Tuscan style catering and banquet hall surrounded by beautiful gardens in a 1929 Mizner Style building. It’s been family owned and operated for 30 years. It’s a large event facility with numerous rooms, a restaurant, bar and lounge area, a beautiful patio lined with bamboo trees and a gorgeous courtyard. And it’s also the place that Oscar and I have chosen for our wedding!

Even though it’s located only 9 minutes from our house, as soon as you pull up to the valet and walk up to their beautiful iron doors it’s like you’ve been transported to a different place. The building and the landscaping make it look like a Venetian palace!

As soon as we arrived we were greeted with sangria by friendly and attentive staff while we waited for Morija, our wedding coordinator.  Morija took us around the venue to show us the different rooms and then she sat us down in the dinner room for our tasting and introduced us to our Maitre d’.

We started with a lovely array of appetizers and then moved on to our main courses which were AMAZING!! My Mom order the salmon, I ordered the root beer pork loin, Jay ordered the Beef Tournados and Oscar ordered the lemon chicken. Then we ended our meals with some chocolate ganache cake and a key lime pie which we loved.

After dinner, we walked around the courtyard and took some photos outside. All in all we had a really good time. The setting was lovely, the food and the wine were delicious and the service was impeccable! I cannot wait to have our wedding there! Can you tell I’m excited??

Greetings from sunny south Florida!!

Today was such a gorgeous day! Too beautiful to be stuck in an office cubicle but oh well. At least my co-worker, Vera, and I were able to get out for a bit and enjoy a delicious healthy lunch together at the Vegan Café.

This was my second visit and Vera’s first at the new raw food café which happens to be just down the street from our office. It’s so nice to have a healthy lunch spot close-by and it’s good to try something different.  I’m so glad that she was willing to go with me to try it out. I ordered the Sweet Potato and Chickpea Curry and Vera ordered the Stuffed Avocado. They were both delicious! The curry hit the spot and the stuffed avocado was very fresh and flavorful.

After lunch, we ordered some goodies to take with us back to the office. I got an organic iced coffee with almond milk and a vegan lemon and chocolate brownie bite. Vera ordered a delicious smoothie called “Some Beach, Some Where” that was heavenly. Personally, I thought that the coffee was very bitter but I got used to it eventually.  The Some Beach smoothie however, I will definitely be going back for….Some Day 🙂  They also have an Apple Pie smoothie and a Peanut Butter Cup smoothie that I would also like to try out as well.

If you haven’t had a chance to eat there, I would strongly suggest checking it out. The Vegan Café is located at: 5075 Okeechobee Blvd in West Palm Beach, FL. It’s on the North side of Okeechobee Blvd just West of Haverhill Rd in the Guitar Center plaza. The food is delicious and healthy, the service is good and fast and inexpensive and the atmosphere is friendly and clean.  I can’t wait to go back and try their other dishes and desserts 🙂
