Lunch Time Work Outs

Have you ever tried or thought about using your lunch break to work out?

A few months ago, I decided to switch my early morning gym workouts to going at lunch time since my mornings and evenings are now dedicated to feeding, walking and playing with our dogs. Luckily there is a gym that’s only a 5 minute drive from the office and the company offers a fitness reimbursement plan!! SCORE!

A couple of my co-workers have been going to the same gym on their lunch breaks too and they look pretty hot so that’s also very motivating for me. At first, I thought I could never do a lunch time workout. I was worried about getting too sweaty and not having enough time so I got a trial membership for a week to try it out in July and became hooked ever since! I get about 45-50 minutes which is plenty of time for a good workout and a cool down finish. Afterwards, I change and freshen up in the bathrooms at the office and eat my lunch at my desk.

In case you are thinking about working out on your lunch hour, here are some tips on what to do before, during, and after your lunch time work out in order to maximize your gym time and deal with all the sweaty-ness and cleanliness 🙂

What to pack: gym outfit, shoes, socks, towel, huggie wipes, make-up wipes and underwear. I keep deodorant and perfume in my drawer for freshening up afterwards.

Plan ahead: Plan your workouts for the week and pack your gym bag for the week to save time.

Eating Schedule: (This took a little while for me to master and eating times may also vary for each person). Just listen to your body, do your research and do what feels right for you. Here is what my eating schedule looks like:

8am – Breakfast: (protein) greek yogurt smoothie or oatmeal with egg whites

11am – Snack: (a carb and a protein) toast, crackers or banana with peanut butter or almond butter

12pm – 1pm (gym time): 20 minute cardio session and 25 minutes for strength training

2pm – Lunch: (protein & veggies) chicken salad with  a sweet potato and a Tera’s Whey protein powder drink

5pm – snack: apple and cheese stick or almond butter, almonds or edamame

7:30pm – Dinner: (protein with veggies)

Benefits and Tips:
I’m glad that I started working out on my lunch breaks. It’s such a wonderful break in the day and I come back feeling refreshed and energized. I don’t feel tired and drained when I get home which is awesome because then I have more energy for my pups and to take care of things at home. If I want a really good sweat session, I know I can go right after work and on the weekends so that’s no problem for me either.

The Adventures of Harlow & Sage

Hello my fellow dog lovers! I have something really cool that I want to share with you on this dreary Monday morning called: Harlow and Sage (and Indiana): A True Story About Best Friends.

A couple of weeks ago a fellow co-worker and friend of mine recommended that I follow Harlow & Sage on Instagram. Since we are both dog lovers (she owns 2 dachshunds and I own 2 schnauzers) she thought I would get a big kick out of it and boy was she right!

Harlow is a cool Weimaraner who has the funniest facial expressions. Sage was an older Dachshund and was Harlow’s sister and best friend. According to their owners, they both shared a love of movies, Meryl Streep, Christmas presents, and playing and cuddling together. Unfortunately Sage passed away at age 13 and left poor Harlow sad and lonely without a doggy pal until one day Harlow’s owners brought home a mini dachshund named Indiana. After a few months, they became friends and sidekicks who go on lots of fun adventures together.

You can follow their adventures on Instagram or Facebook or you can purchase their book that was just published early last month. I might have to get it. It would make a great coffee table book 🙂

I posted some cute photos for you below. As you can see, occasionally their owners dress them up in silly outfits and it’s hysterical. I hope this brings a BIG smile to your face 🙂

Delray Dog Beach and Greenmarket

Hi everyone! It is officially fall in South Florida! Yay! Hello sweaters and autumn breezes and goodbye bugs and humidity.

Last weekend Oscar and I took Baxter and Guinness on their first visit to the beach and Greenmarket. The weather was so beautiful that we had to take advantage and get outside.

We heard from another dog owner at our local dog park one evening that there is an unguarded area on the beach just north of Atlantic Avenue on A1A where people bring their dogs. Apparently it’s OK even though it’s not an official “dog beach” we decided to go check it out and brought the boys with us and sure enough a lot of other dog owners were there with their pooches too.

The boys loved it and had a great time running around with the other dogs. Oscar put them in the water a few times but as you can see from the photos below they weren’t that interested. I think they were distracted by the other dogs and just wanted to play and run on the sand.



20141101_10595420141101_105950After about thirty-forty  minutes later (and having to chase after them a few times), we decided it was time to go. We said our goodbyes to the other dog owners, gave the boys a quick shower rinse, and then headed to the outdoor Greenmarket on Atlantic Avenue.

The boys were so well behaved and they got lots of compliments from other bystanders at the market. It was nice to be able to walk around with them and shop and not worry about them barking at other people or other dogs. We stopped at a local produce stand and I purchased some fruits and veggies for the house. We also got some treats for the boys from a local vendor who sells Tweedle Pet Products. We picked up a little bag of Tweedle Stix which is raw all natural dehydrated beef liver that they loved. Then we settled on the grass with our towels and had a little bite to eat. Afterwards, it was time to go. As you can see, our boys were pretty tuckered out.


And that was our fun little Saturday morning adventure 🙂 I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and this beautiful Fall weather.
