What I’m Lovin This Week

Below is a list of all the things that I’ve been enjoying this week. I really need to do this more often so that I can see that there is so much more positive than negative going on in my life. Do any of you do this? Do you do a mental recap of your week and come to the conclusion that life is pretty great? Sometimes I get so stuck on this one little negative thing that happened and forget that there’s so many positive things that happened also!!

Here are my top 5 things that made me happy this week:

My new Shark Rocket vacuum: OK – I know what you’re thinking. A vacuum?? But seriously…this thing is no joke!! My husband and I have been in the market for a new vacuum for a while now especially since we have dogs and because our old one doesn’t work very well. I had read and heard a lot of positive reviews about the Shark, so I finally went out and bought one for our house. The vacuum was around $200 at Bed, Bath, and Beyond (I also got to use a 20% off coupon) and so far I’m really happy with my purchase. I set it up as soon as I got home and vacuumed my tile, hardwood floors and bedroom carpet. I also used it to clean my couches and to remove the dusty cob webs from my ceilings.  It’s very light and easy to use. I was able to get a lot of house cleaning done in a quick amount of time which makes this girl very happy. I’m not going to say anything corny like it was a life changer or anything but it certainly makes our house cleaning house a lot easier for us which is a great thing!

Moving on….

Orange Theory Fitness and The Barre Studio:
I am trying out a couple of new work-out studios in the area in order. I recently signed up for Orange Theory Fitness (OTF), and Barre classes at the The Barre Studio in Delray Beach.

OTF– If you like running and circuit training then I would definitely recommend Orange Theory. Basically what you do are intervals of cardio on the treadmill and the rowing machine coupled with strength training. You wear a strap with a heart rate monitor so you can see the calories you’re burning and which fat-burning  “zone” you’re in. I’m not sure if I buy into the whole the “after-burn” philosophy but I do love the workout and I also like fact that you get to see how hard you’re working on the heart rate monitor screen in the studio and how many calories you burned after each class.

Barre Fitness – Barre class is another workout that I am also enjoying. What I love about Barre is the fact that you get strength training mixed with yoga and ballet. It’s VERY challenging but I am loving the workout and am already starting to see some and feel positive results in my arms and legs. The Barre Fitness studio located in downtown Delray Beach is awesome and so are the instructors. They are fun, personable and they give you the personal instruction throughout the class so you’re getting an effective workout.

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Right now I am about half-way through John Maxwell’s book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. I think this book offers practical and valuable insights into what makes a good leader. This book was recommended to me by an old co-worker whom I admired and respected. I am liking it so far and I feel it has helped me to think like a leader, identify good leadership and even hone in on my natural leadership skills. Maxwell shares a lot of his previous experience as a pastor and as a leadership consultant. There are also a lot of historical examples of leadership mistakes and successes that he provides to us from past presidents, historical events like the civil war and some of the pioneer corporations that I enjoy reading and learning about.

My Boys: My dogs will always be on this list because they bring so much happiness and silliness into mine and Oscar’s life. We get so many compliments from friends, family, other dog owners, and people who meet them for the first time. They are so calm and well-behaved in social settings. Although, they can be very rambunctious at times when they are at home, they’re sweet, loyal, affectionate and even tempered 90% of the time. And they make any night at home an entertaining one 🙂

Getting Back on Track

“Eat well, love much, exercise often” is what my tagline says. However, these past two months I have only been doing the first two of the three. I have been eating well, a little too well actually and I really need to get back on track.

I am not ready for anything drastic like swearing off carbs, alcohol and sugar but I am going to make some small changes each week and hope that will make a BIG difference.

Here is my plan:
1) Cut out daily sweets and afternoon Starbucks visits
2) Replace carby breakfasts with protein
3) Work out on my lunch breaks (at least 30 mins)
4) Workout 4 days a week
5) Walk the dogs 3xs per day instead of 2xs

So basically – more activity and less crap. These are the changes I would like to make.  I would also like to be kinder to myself and more positive. I think balance and harmony within are the key.

Sometimes I feel like life is a big race and I am sprinting to catch up with the masses. I feel like I am always so behind on where I “should” be in life. I rush through my chores and errands in order to get to the next item on my list and don’t allow myself to sit and relax and enjoy the moment.

That all needs to stop. All it does is exhaust me and stress me out which leads to decreased energy and a feeling of imbalance.

My trainer told me the best thing to do is to accept your body and all it’s imperfections. It sounds so obvious but it was advice that I needed to hear.

This quote below also resonates with me and is something I try to do even in the era of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Don’t get me wrong. I love social media. But why must we constantly share our daily activities with everyone? We are more concerned with what others are seeing rather than what we are doing. I don’t want to live my life that way. I want to enjoy my moments and do what makes my soul happy.

Easter and Anniversary Weekend

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter!

This weekend Oscar and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary. Oscar surprised me by taking me to Benvenuto’s which was the place where we got married. Benvenuto’s is a family owned restaurant and event facility. It holds a very special place in my heart and I loved celebrating our anniversary there. The staff even remembered us and comped our wine and dessert. I ordered the local fresh snapper and Oscar ordered the Pork Loin. Both meals were amazing. Afterwards we went home and watched our wedding video. It was lovely evening with my husband.

We did our shopping, completed some chores around the house, spoiled our dogs with Easter presents and then had my Dad over for homemade lasagna and one-year old wedding cake that we defrosted for round two of our anniversary celebration!

Despite being in our freezer for a year, the cake was actually very good.

I also got one more surprise today at work which was a beautiful flower delivery from Oscar. I was so surprised. I have never received flowers at work before and it was so nice to get a beautiful arrangement with a sweet note from my husband. It was so thoughtful.

On the way home, I decided to surprise him with take out Chinese since it’s his favorite.

I’ve heard people say that the first year of marriage is the hardest but that has not been the case with Oscar and I. This has been a great year for us and I couldn’t be happier. Our year started out with a trip to Ireland and then we adopted two great pooches. We have also worked hard to make a lovely and cozy home and I started a new career in January which I love! I am so thankful for all of these wonderful blessings and I just can’t wait to see what the future has in store for us.

If you read this post, thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts with you on my first year of marriage. I think it’s such a wonderful blessing that deserves to celebrated and I can’t help but want to make a deal about it.
