Week 18: Baby is the size of a bell pepper!
Week 19: Baby is the size of an heirloom tomato!
Week 20: Baby is the length of a banana!
It’s amazing to me how different each week is when it comes to all of the growth spurts happening inside of my belly. In week 18, baby can yawn and hiccup, and his nervous system is developing. During week 19, my baby has developed his protective varnish called vernix caseosa which is a greasy white skin protectant that protects my baby’s skin from getting wrinkly from the all the amniotic fluid surrounding him in his sac. In Week 20, my baby is developing meconium which is a black, sticky by-product that aids in my baby’s digestion.
How am I feeling?
I love it when my friends, family and co-workers ask me how I’m feeling. I truly appreciate their thoughtfulness and caring about my well-being and it makes me so loved. I always say that I am doing fine and that I feel great because that is the truth. Unless I need some advice, I try not share all of the details about my trouble sleeping or that I’m constipated and gassy, tired, and forgetful because despite all of those common discomforts of pregnancy, I really do feel great and extremely blessed to be going through this experience and that is the message that I want to convey to my loved ones.
I have gained a total of 10 pounds so far and should be gaining a half pound to a pound each week. I remember how worried I used to be about getting pregnant and gaining a ton of weight. However, this morning when I stepped on the scale and noticed my weight gain, I found it reassuring and normal and it didn’t bother me one bit. 🙂
Food Aversions and Cravings:
Pork! Pork loin, pork chops, and pulled pork are just not agreeing with me these days. As soon as I eat it, my body rejects it immediately by throwing it up. So I will be avoiding any pork even (bacon and sausage) for a while since I don’t think baby likes it. Oh well 😦
Now that I have reached the halfway point in my pregnancy, it’s time to start taking some birthing classes. I also get to in for my next ultrasound in a week and see and hear my baby!! 😀
Looking forward to:
The holidays! I am so excited to be pregnant during this time of year!
My husband and I and our dogs are going to drive up to Maryland to spend Thanksgiving with our good friends Mikey and Annie and their family and then I have friends coming in from all over for Christmas. I can’t wait to see everyone and show them my big ever growing belly! 😀
