Summertime To-Do List 2016

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.” -Charles Bowden

Aloha! And happy almost Summer! I know summer doesn’t officially start for a couple of weeks, but I consider Memorial Day weekend the start of summertime over here in sunny South Florida.

Although I don’t care for the heat and humidity , I am happy it’s here.  After 35 years of being a Florida girl, I think I can deal with the heat. I’m ready for my summer feels!

To me the summertime represents love, happiness, new experiences, parties, having fun and livin’ easy.

My husband and I haven’t made any travel plans. We just want to stay local and do some house projects which I am very excited about. I am also looking forward to spending time on the beach, wearing my sandals and flowy dresses, relaxing by the pool, going to bbqs with my favorite people, wearing less make up and letting my hair dry natural and wavy. I’m ready to relax and keep things simple.

I did create a summer bucket list of course since I am a planner and a bit “to-do” list obsessed 🙂 This is my  reminder to kick back and enjoy the season before its gone!

1) Visit The Girls’ Strawberry Patch

2) Start gardening

3) Go for long bike rides

Delray Dog Beach and Greenmarket

Hi everyone! It is officially fall in South Florida! Yay! Hello sweaters and autumn breezes and goodbye bugs and humidity.

Last weekend Oscar and I took Baxter and Guinness on their first visit to the beach and Greenmarket. The weather was so beautiful that we had to take advantage and get outside.

We heard from another dog owner at our local dog park one evening that there is an unguarded area on the beach just north of Atlantic Avenue on A1A where people bring their dogs. Apparently it’s OK even though it’s not an official “dog beach” we decided to go check it out and brought the boys with us and sure enough a lot of other dog owners were there with their pooches too.

The boys loved it and had a great time running around with the other dogs. Oscar put them in the water a few times but as you can see from the photos below they weren’t that interested. I think they were distracted by the other dogs and just wanted to play and run on the sand.

20141101_10595420141101_105950After about thirty-forty  minutes later (and having to chase after them a few times), we decided it was time to go. We said our goodbyes to the other dog owners, gave the boys a quick shower rinse, and then headed to the outdoor Greenmarket on Atlantic Avenue.

The boys were so well behaved and they got lots of compliments from other bystanders at the market. It was nice to be able to walk around with them and shop and not worry about them barking at other people or other dogs. We stopped at a local produce stand and I purchased some fruits and veggies for the house. We also got some treats for the boys from a local vendor who sells Tweedle Pet Products. We picked up a little bag of Tweedle Stix which is raw all natural dehydrated beef liver that they loved. Then we settled on the grass with our towels and had a little bite to eat. Afterwards, it was time to go. As you can see, our boys were pretty tuckered out.

And that was our fun little Saturday morning adventure 🙂 I hope you are all enjoying your weekend and this beautiful Fall weather.

The Secret Garden Cafe

Good Morning Peeps!!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and is enjoying their holiday. I can’t believe this is the last weekend of 2013! I don’t know about you all but I thought  2013 was a pretty awesome year and I am ready for 2014. Bring it on!!

On Saturday morning my honey and I met for  brunch at The Secret Garden Cafe in Boynton Beach. I’ve driven by there many times and have always been curious about going inside and trying it out. There are so many cool things about this place that I don’t even know where to begin.

The Secret Garden Cafe is a restaurant that uses organic produce. They are a part of a complex that includes an organic green market, bakery, specialty food store and they also offer cooking classes!  Their motto is “Farm to Table Freshness by using the freshest ingredients provided by Urban Farming and local Boynton Farmers”.

When we walked in I was very pleased with the cozy atmosphere and the home-y feel it had to it. We were greeted by a friendly waitress who sat us in a cozy table next to their Christmas tree. She brought us out some waters with lemon and some coffee and tea while we looked at their menu. They also had a live singer and guitarist who played soft tunes while we waited for our breakfast.

I ordered a veggie and goat cheese omelet and Oscar ordered the 2 egg breakfast which was superb. Both of our orders came with fresh fruit and toast and a homemade jam and fruit spread which was mouthwatering.

Oscar and I both had a great time. The service was very friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was lovely and the food was simply healthy and delicious. Unfortunately, I don’t come across many restaurants in Palm Beach County that use cage-free eggs, organic meat and produce and wild seafood. I was very impressed and look forward to going back. I feel so lucky to have a dining spot close by that is healthy, local and environmentally conscientious!!

Tasty Tasting at Benvenuto’s

On Friday, November 16th, Oscar and I along with my Mom and Stepdad went to Benvenuto’s for our wedding food tasting and it was a HUGE SUCCESS!! Not only was the food excellent (and very filling) but we were all blown away by the ambiance and the first class service we were treated to.

Benvenuto’s is a beautiful Tuscan style catering and banquet hall surrounded by beautiful gardens in a 1929 Mizner Style building. It’s been family owned and operated for 30 years. It’s a large event facility with numerous rooms, a restaurant, bar and lounge area, a beautiful patio lined with bamboo trees and a gorgeous courtyard. And it’s also the place that Oscar and I have chosen for our wedding!

Even though it’s located only 9 minutes from our house, as soon as you pull up to the valet and walk up to their beautiful iron doors it’s like you’ve been transported to a different place. The building and the landscaping make it look like a Venetian palace!

As soon as we arrived we were greeted with sangria by friendly and attentive staff while we waited for Morija, our wedding coordinator.  Morija took us around the venue to show us the different rooms and then she sat us down in the dinner room for our tasting and introduced us to our Maitre d’.

We started with a lovely array of appetizers and then moved on to our main courses which were AMAZING!! My Mom order the salmon, I ordered the root beer pork loin, Jay ordered the Beef Tournados and Oscar ordered the lemon chicken. Then we ended our meals with some chocolate ganache cake and a key lime pie which we loved.

After dinner, we walked around the courtyard and took some photos outside. All in all we had a really good time. The setting was lovely, the food and the wine were delicious and the service was impeccable! I cannot wait to have our wedding there! Can you tell I’m excited??

Bay Bay’s Chicken & Waffles

“Bay bay, are you in the mood for some hot spicy chicken and waffles?”  HELL YEAH!!

Last Tuesday, my guy treated me by taking me out for some delicious southern fried chicken and waffles at Bay Bay’s for a weeknight dinner date.

I’ve only tried chicken and waffles once and loved it so I was really looking forward to going to Bay Bay’s.

Bay Bay’s Chicken and Waffles is located in West Palm Beach on Okeechobee Blvd. just west of I-95. It’s rated as the best fried chicken in Florida and it certainly lives up to it’s reputation. Their fried buttermilk chicken is very meaty and a little spicy but not too spicy (I am kind of a wuss with spice). And their waffles are to die for! They are soft and sweet with an almost cake-like texture.  They go really well with the fried chicken and some maple syrup. For $7.95 you  can get a breast, a wing and a Belgium style waffle. It’s just enough to leave you feeling full and satisfied.

I was also impressed with their variety of waffles as well as the other items on their menu. Unfortunately, I did not get to try the dessert waffles but I look forward to going back multiple times and ordering the lemon cake, red velvet and pumpkin pie waffles. They even have a PBJ waffle, a Cuban Coffee Waffle and other Southern fare 🙂 The service is very friendly and hospitable and they cater too!!

Red Velvet Chix & Waffles…very good!!!

If you’ve never tried chicken and waffles, I highly recommend it. And if you live or are visiting the West Palm Beach area, I highly recommend making a stop at Bay Bay’s!

Spinning Ninja Sushi Bar

I LOOOOVVVE date night. But you know what else is really cool? DOUBLE date night!!!! Especially one that involves yummy sushi served on floating boats….Ninja style!!

IMAG0585.jpg

Saturday night was a fun date night. We went to the Spinning Ninja Sushi Bar in Boca Raton with my good friends, Alicia and Dee who just recently got engaged 🙂 It was a lovely evening and I especially enjoyed hearing all about their engagement and future wedding plans.

I thought the restaurant was a neat little place and a cool concept. We sat at the bar where they had little boats going by carrying small plates of food.  Each plate is color coded based upon the price. We dined on sushi, sashimi, edamame, and dumplings and sipped on coconut saki. We also ordered fried rice and miso soup from the menu. My favorite meal was the mango and crab sushi roll.

The sushi was delicious and if there was something that you wanted that was not on the menu, the staff was happy to make it for you. I also noticed that they have other tables to sit at aside from the floating bar area. This was a fun place to eat with a great atmosphere and I look forward to going back.

Since the restaurant is located next to Mizner Park we took a walk over there afterwards, did some window shopping and stopped for coffee at Starbucks. We discovered some new restaurants and happy hour spots to visit and even came across some weird guy on a bike who kept rambling on about how he was friends with Ralph Lauren and Howard Schultz and that they own him favors. HHHmmm…a little strange but definitely entertaining.

All in all it was a great date night and I look forward to doing more double dates with Alicia and Dee 🙂 And congrats again to the both of them on their engagement!

National Margarita Day

Am I the only one who didn’t know there was a National Margarita Day?? I swear, I am always the last person to find about these things!

National Margarita Day is held on February 22nd so out of respect for this national holiday, my friends and I celebrated at Cha-Chas Tequila Bar in Palm Beach over the weekend.

It also happened that my best friend Melanie (pictured below) was in town from California that same weekend for our good friend Stephanie’s wedding so it was the perfect night for catching up with the girls and a little pre-wedding partying!!

Bring on the tequila, lime, salt and triple sec! Aye yi yi yi yi yi yiee!!!Photo

cha chas girls

Cha Chas Tequila Bar was a real hit! Not only did we have a fantastic meal and a great server but we also got a free round of tequila shots, free guacamole and they even gave us keys to a lock box which had fun prizes inside like fake mustaches and sunglasses.

As you can see, things got a little silly…..

It’s always a party with these girls! Viva tequila, amigas y margaritas!!!!
